The Purple Child (engl. title)
On the morning of her 16th birthday, Lou runs to the kitchen full of anticipation only to find total chaos. She immediately knows that her mother had another mental breakdown- and that she has to take care of her. But then her crush Matz rings the door and invites her to a concert. Lou is torn between the self-sacrifice for her mother and her feelings for Matz. The situation escalates when she secretly invites Matz home.
In Germany 5.3 million adults suffer from depression. There is little discussion about the affected persons themselves and even less about their children. With „The Purple Child“ I want to give voice to these children and encourage them to break out of their situation. A huge contribution to the emotional authenticity of the film were my own experiences with my mother’s severe migraine attacks.
